Privacy Policy (Beta)
Effective Date: [date of publication]. This Privacy Policy explains what Symposiarch, LLC ("WayVote," "we," "us") collects when you use the WayVote app and website (the "Service"), why we collect it, how it's used and shared, and the choices and rights you have. This Policy is incorporated into, and should be read together with, our Terms of Service.
The Short Version
WayVote collects your account information, your votes on legislation, your questionnaire answers, and basic usage data, to compute your personal CASE alignment score and Civic DNA (CSSE) engagement profile and to operate the Service. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use anything other than your own votes and questionnaire answers as inputs to your own scores. We do not store government identification documents ourselves — identity verification is handled by our payment processor. You can download or delete your data at any time from Settings.
What we collect. Account: email, display name, birth month and year. Location: the address you enter, used once to find your districts and your ballot; we keep the derived districts and the address itself only as long as needed to re-map when districts change. Civic activity: your votes, questionnaire answers, plan choices, Dive Deeper questions, Soundings, feedback. Technical: device and browser, pages and actions (first-party only; no third-party trackers or advertising cookies), errors.
Sensitive information. Your address is sensitive under California law. We use it only for district mapping, which you'd expect from the app, and for nothing else. Your votes and answers reveal political views; we treat them as sensitive, protect them with row-level security so only you can read your own rows, and show them only as described above.
What we do with it. Operate WayVote; compute your Civic DNA and alignment; show your activity to others only as you choose; build aggregates that never fall below 30 people; keep the service secure; respond to you; comply with law.
What we never do. Sell your personal information. Share your address, your votes, or your answers with campaigns, parties, or advertisers. Tell you how to vote.
Who We Share Information With
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes. We share limited data with the following service providers, strictly to operate the Service, each bound by a data processing agreement limiting their use of your data to providing services to WayVote:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database hosting and authentication, with row-level security enforcing per-user access | All account and civic activity data |
| Stripe | Payment processing and identity verification | Payment and verification-status data |
| Vercel | Application hosting | Operational/technical data |
| Anthropic / OpenAI / Google (AI APIs) | Generating bill explanations and "Dive Deeper" responses | Bill text and your typed question; not your account identity, alignment scores, or voting history |
| Legislative data sources | congress.gov, LegiScan, Open States, Legistar, FEC OpenFEC | Outbound only — we pull public legislative data; we do not send these sources any of your personal data |
Your choices. Download your data, delete your account, turn aggregate participation off ("Make your vote count" in Settings → Profile & Privacy), set your profile public or private. We honor Global Privacy Control signals.
Retention. Account data until you delete it; backups up to 30 days after; aggregates indefinitely without identifying information.
Security. Row-level security on every table, keys kept server-side, HTTPS only, rate limits, append-only audit records for consent and acceptance. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated abuse; Cloudflare's handling of that check is described in its Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
Children. No one under 13. Users 13–17 need a parent or guardian's approval through our guardian flow; guardians can see their minor's account status.
International Users
WayVote's data model is built to support international use, but as of this Policy's effective date, our legislative data sources and verification systems are U.S.-only, and WayVote does not target users outside the United States. If and when WayVote expands to jurisdictions covered by GDPR or other non-U.S. privacy regimes, this Policy will be updated accordingly before that expansion goes live, including addressing political opinion as a GDPR special category at that time.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will provide notice of material changes through the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect.
Contact and requests. privacy@way.vote. We respond within 45 days.
